Following our recent post, we have seen a sharp increase in rodent activity in Adelaide and the metropolitan area as a result of weather conditions that are favourable to rodents.
Our team has been conducting extensive rodent treatments in areas across Adelaide including Westbourne Park, Oaklands Park, Marion, into the hills areas of Stirling and Belair.
We recently responded to a call from a concerned customer in Modbury who reported a number of rodents running along their fence bordering the property – fortunately we were able to treat this problem quickly.
Why have rodent numbers increased?
The change in weather conditions has altered the timing of the traditional season for rodents as they move in seek of food, water and shelter, often at the homeowner’s expense.
Prevention is better than cure
It’s important that rodent activity is quickly controlled before these pests become established at your property. There are a number of signs that you may have a rodent problem which are detailed here.
There are two main solutions for controlling rodents humanly, which include trapping and chemical control solutions.
Effective rodent control will reduce and eliminate the likelihood of health issues and damage to property caused by these pests.
Dangers and problems
Rodents are well known to access the internal areas of the home including the roof void and wall cavities, behind the gyprock or dry wall, where they gnaw at electrical wires. Often the first sign of this activity are lights not turning on or power outlets not functioning, later confirmed by an electrician and followed by costly but essential repairs. This should always be checked and repaired by a licenced electrician to ensure your safety.
It is unfortunately common for house fires to begin as a result of this rodent activity with devastating results –contact your local licenced electrician immediately
Home Insurance – you’re not covered!
Home insurance typically does not cover any damage caused by rodents or vermin, as it is deemed the responsibility of the homeowner to protect the home from these pests. Regular maintenance and pest control inspections will help reduce and control rodent activity before it becomes a problem at your property.
